“When I was young, I wanted to become a criminal investigator or a psychologist. I hoped I might get to work with people, perhaps even help them for a living. It felt natural, compelling—after all, human stories and the landscapes of the mind have always fascinated me. I thought art was just a transitional phase, a pleasant extra to accompany my studies.

 

Until life happened.

 

I’m Susanna, and I became an entrepreneur in the creative field—a visual artist and designer.

A visual storyteller, a Master of Arts, and a lifelong explorer of an ever-curious mind. I’ve been painting, drawing, and interpreting the world around me for forty years starting from my father’s arms. My fascination for paint, brushes, colours, and materials opened a doorway into something infinite, something without boundaries. Yet it was never meant to become a profession: how could a third mother tongue possibly turn into a place where one clocks in?

 

It isn’t a job, nor a profession, nor a title, nor an ambitious position to strive for. Through joys and sorrows alike, life gave me a way to bring forth a vision that feels meaningful to me: I want to continue the landscape beyond the horizon—and then bring it back again. To make the small joys visible, to strengthen one’s will to live, and still, always, to help people.

Susanna Sivonen was born in 1984 in Haparanda, in Northern Sweden, and lives and works in Oulu, Finland. She enjoys creating symbolic art that contemplates deeper emotions and feelings in a realistic and layered way. She is inspired by the cycle of nature and the daily life in addition with sudden encounters. Having grown up in Scandinavia, the cold and darkness of the North, the empowering light during summer and the changing colors creates the base for her recognizable style.
